Trailer Ideas

Why We Have Picked Horror

Horror

Recently in cinemas many Paranormal Horror have come out, so many people around our age group are interested it them at the moment. So we have though that we should create a Thriller to be a bit different.

Creating a Thriller will also be easier than a paranormal film, due to the amount of special effects paranormal films relay on.  We lack these special effects, but with the idea of a Thriller we think that it could be really interesting. We are yet to have picked a scenario; this means that I will need to be researching the genre more in the past next couple of weeks.

Horror Characters

Character seen in Horror film: • Antagonist - This character is in every Horror whether it be a demonic character or a real person. This is what causes the trouble in the film. This character is usually shown as more powerful than everyone else. • Victim – every film has at least one victim, some times more. In paranormal films there may be one main victim and others around who get affected by the ‘Ghost’. Often the villain would be a child, due to the idea that children are more open to paranormal activities and weaker. Or a blonde female, with the idea that she is a ‘blonde bimbo’ and can’t look after herself. • The Survivor – In many Horrors there is at least one survivor, it is often a brunette female. Or sometimes a male with something to fight for. • The Hero – A character that has the bright ideas is strong (mentally and physically) and carries the group onwards. This character is normally a nerd or someone that works in the church community. • Non Believer – There is always a character that does not believe that any things happening, they’re often a jock or a good looking and thinks that they’re superior. This character often is the first to die.

Reasons For Picking Horror

Me and my partner Sophie have decided to pick the genre of Horror for our film trailer. Our reasoning for this being that we want it to be exciting, we were thinking of doing a Rom-com. However, we released that it would be really had to convey because we do not have the same sense of humor as everyone else. With Horror we think that we could really mess around with it and create something creepy as we often watch Horror films ourselves we know what people look for in one. i think that it will be interesting working with Horror to see how i have improved from AS.

Why I Created a Genre Mood Board

Why I Created a Genre Mood Board

I decided to create a mood board as I am sort of struggling to pick a genre to work on. I looking into Comedy, romance, Horror and Action films that had been released to gather some ideas. This helped me as I got an understanding of what types of features I would need to use on my film poster and in my trailer. Also, this will help me decide what genre would be best for me to work on. I know now that I will no pick Action, this is because it would be very difficult to portray, as there is a lack of props available to me for this genres codes and conventions. Furthermore, Comedy can be hard as well as the viewers will most likely not have the same humour as me and then it would not be very funny to others.

I do not think that Romance would be very difficult to do and I think that I would be able to do it. However, personally I would like to work with something that I could be more abstract with.

Horror genre is mostly shown in low-key lighting to scare the audience, vulnerability if presented a lot. Both film posters and trailers use the colour black or red as it connotes evilness and loneliness. I think that this might be the best genre for me to work with because it would fit my dark mind and my ability to create dark thoughts, I could really play around with this genre, as long as it is done right.

Research Of Film Genres

In the film industry there is a mass range of different types of genres. This all depends on the common convection. Genre refers to the method based on similarities in the narrative elements from which films are constructed. The importance of choosing the right genre is to create familiarity among audiences, so that they know what type of film they like to watch and what to expect from a certain film genre. The audience are the main impact on genre, in terms of how they are created and distributed in order to make them appealing upon the films release. Genre can be conveyed by: setting, props, theme, plot, content, iconography and mise-en-scene. Examples of film genres: Horror Action Romance Comedy Drama Musical Crime Sience Fiction War

What I Could Have Improved On

What Went Well In My AS Coursework

What Went Well In My AS Coursework

Personally I think that our coursework went quite well, this is because I feel that I put a lot of work and effort into my blog. My group really focused on it.

Our evaluation questions went well as we planned on how to present each question. we split the questions between us and came up with points to use and then came together to create the project. we wanted to be more creative when answering our questions instead of just lots and lots of writing. Our reasoning for this was so that when the examiner came to viewing our blog they would not be bored because it was not all the same or just tons of writing, the examiner would hopefully be more impressed with our creative work, proving the effort we put into it. One of the presentations was on the software Emaze, as it was unique and completely different to using power point. However, i still prefer using power point as i find it easier to work with. The other software we used was Prezi which for me was not easy to use, and I really struggled with it at first. Overall i thought that our presentation for all seven questions were shown effectively, because they were so different and filled with photos, animation and interesting set outs.

I think that I done well on the research and planning section of my blog, as I kept updating whats new, whats gone wrong and whats gone right. I really made an effort to make sure that i had lots of evidence to back up what I was doing and why. I made sure that i know enough about my genre to create one of my own.

Another part that i think went well for me personally was acting in the opening sequence. Being a Dancer meant that I was able to do the flexible movement that looks really strange. I think that the character was very interesting to play. This really took some confidence and helped me build it when I realised that I can do it, and others told me that it looked really good. I was also Able to take charge with the editing as I changed the lighting on the woods, this was an achievement for me as it was the first time using the software properly.

How I Am going to Approach my A2 Coursework

How I Am going to Approach my A2 Coursework

When we finished AS, one member of my group decided that she did not want to carry A2 on, and the other wanted to work alone. this meant that i had to find someone else of work alone. With doing a Performing Arts course at the same time I thought the work load would be extreme so to balance it out a bit i am now working with Sophie from the other Media class. This works out well for us because our classes are coming together next year. Sophie and I also have a lot in common when it comes to ideas and creativity, meaning we can easily create and decided on ideas.

The work load this year will also be evenly spread out, so that we can work on our other subjects as well. For example, I will be recording and Sophie will be editing.

My approach to A2 will be a lot more organised than last year and hopefully less stressful at getting everything done on time and I am looking forward to working with her.
